Robin Good's Master New Media: Blog Commenting Systems: Disqus? Or Something Else?

  • hombrelobo · 1 year ago
I like Disqus, but the fact that is only in English makes me very reluctant of installing it anywhere .....
  • RobinGood · 1 year ago
But what about those other issues?

You don't find them too relevant or bothering?
  • hombrelobo · 1 year ago
Yes, specially keeping the comments in their servers ....

I am not sure if you can actually export them afterwards if you decide to stop using them later .... that might help .....

Disqus is a good tool for Tumblr to create comments. I am agree with Dave that use Disqus on his blog:

    OK Dario.

But again: are you OK with your readers comments sitting on someone's else
    server?

Are you OK with your readers comments being all Javascripyted and being not
    indexed by major search engines?

Are you OK with Disqus havign all your comments on its server and letting
only there your readers' comments to be indexed?

These are the critical points on which I would like to hear your opinion.

What are the benefits of the new system? These days I notice more and more of what I call piggybacking. Things that initially seem like a good idea but are only really riding on someone elses vibes, and in some cases, flat out vampirizing. The disadvantages in this case seem to far outweigh the benefits. Actually it sounds pretty idiotic if you ask me. Good one one for trying it out. It occured to me that perhaps you need a blog site that you use for experimenting with new ideas. Just a flat out crazy space where anything goes. Anyway thats my opinion. Take care Robin. Keep up the hot tech and marketing resources mate.

Hey guys. Daniel from Disqus here.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. :)

I like the feature of being able to subscribe to email notification for further comments on the article that is being commented on. But having a site that has some articles with many comments, where the comments themselves are just as important or even more than the original article, I would be very reluctant to change to the Disqus system, just for the fact that the text of comments is kept apart from the site itself.

I could imagine (and would be afraid of) comments no longer being available, not even as a backup that can be restored - in case anything happens to the Disqus business...

Does using a hosted comment service such as Disqus eradicate spam? If so, that is a great reason to utilise such a service.

    Yes it does.

Disqus provides you with a better way of attracting blog readers to start thread conversations in blog posts. It enables the post to be more interactive and manageable and it presents blog comments in a nicer, web 2.0ish way.
