I do miss Dimdim (http://www.dimdim.com/) on the list, but otherwise great job!

Thanks for the mention. How did you manage to stumble upon www.boostcam.com ? I originally created the site as a way to test the new peer-to-peer functionality in Flash 10 and was surprised by the response I got. I have plans for many "pro" features such as session recording, multiple user chat, whiteboarding and some other things if there is interest. There is also an API in the works to allow developers an easy way to integrate video chat into their applications.

hi podman. I am creating a website and I am (desperately) looking for a web/video conferencing software to embed it in my website. most people tell me that it is not possible to have this option but I believe that there must be a way to do this. I need high quality image, sound (preferably in full screen). I want it for both one-on-one, and one-multiple users. Skype gives me an ideal quality, but it is not embeddable. I don't want people to leave my website and have their chat in a different site. I don't need any whiteboarding and document uploading and such; I just need a video chat with high quality and hopefull session recording option. Do you think you could help me with this problem? Thanks

    How about one of these:
    www.ustream.tv - hq image - full screen - one to many - can co-host -
    embeddable - embeddable chat
www.mogulus.com - hq image with Procaster sw - full screen - one to many -
    can co-host - embeddable - embeddable chat
www.oovoo.com - one-on-one as well as embeddable public videoconference with
    multiple people -

    thanks for your suggestions.
the first 2 links are mostly for broadcasting which is something that at this point I don't need them.
the 3 link, I'd actually installed it a few days ago in my computer. there is no full-screen option, but it is still a pretty cool thing to use it in a chatroom.
what I need is mostly a "live" one-on-one and host+multiple user video conferencing (recordable video) option.
again, I appreciate your response :-)

Oovoo does offer full screen option - it can be embedded live into any web
site while you are running a video conference with one or multiple people -
it offers full recording for $10-month

    Try Tokbox.com next.

hmmm, the oovoo guy told me on the phone that they don't have full screen option!
OK, so, let's say I have 50 users (25 groups, each consists of 2) who are talking one-on-one simultaneously. Does oovoo support this?

and also let's say 5 separate groups (each consists of up to 6 users in each chat box) ruuning simultaneously. does oovoo support this? or 10$ is for only one chat-box up to 6 people?

    Thanks again

You are finally spilling the beans.

    Now it is easier.

    a) 25 groups of 2 people - can have have 25 video conversations live on
OoVoo just like you could do on Skype. The only two advantages are that you
could both embed, as well as record each one. This would cost zero.

    b) 5 groups of 6 users each can only run on OoVoo with 5 ooVoo Premium
    accounts. That's $50 a month.

    c) Try Tokbox and Mebeam.com.

OK, perfect!! your "a" statement was very pleasant to hear! :-)

I am glad that I got half of what I need!! this is a big improvement for me... hehe... I am glad I found your website! :-)
  • nirvananirvan · 7 months ago
I just tried Tokbox too. The quality is very low and there is no full screen option. the windows are quite small there.
  • RobinGood · 7 months ago
I think you have almost exhausted your options. :-)

If it is not here: http://www.mindmeister.com/18345023

You could find something here: http://www.mindmeister.com/12213323, though
given your specific requirements I think you have already seen those that
    come closest.
  • nirvananirvan · 7 months ago
wow... it's a nice tree you have designed! hehe... I felt lost in it to be honest. but, yes I want a mix of different possible options. I am not a computer person, but I really have to make something work and I won't give up until I find the solution.
out of curiosity, would you know anyone who could do what I want? I have a company that is working for me, but they seem very inexperienced and after almost 2 months, they have not been able to figure out a way to put this video conferencing in my website! so, they keep telling me that I should forget about this option, but I can't do that!
oh, by the way, oovoo has another free option for the chat room, and that is the 3 people in a chatroom. So, does that mean that I can have 10 separate groups of 3 people chatting concurrent?

Hi, I also would like a statement why you don't mention dimdim. I know you had problems with them, when they first launched their project:
    http://www.masternewmedia.org/news/2006/09/06/d...

Does that has to do with not including their service? Is there any other reason? I'm sure there is some, and it could be interesting for everybody to know why they are not considered in your list.

I personally think that their product has improved a lot but in everyday practice we were still having trouble with audio configuration an loss of comunication

    No conspiracy here.

DimDim is a great webconferencing tool, but it does not offer any serious videoconferencing ability in its free version. Even its Pro plan, costing $19/month offers only the ability to do a one-to-one video session.
  • clarko · 8 months ago
Heya, great stuff here! DimDim just launched a new version with more video capability - might want to double check that.

Great resource. Thank you. I have been doing research on another company that was not on your list. It seems to be targeted toward larger companies. Vidyo. They appear to be the first company to commercialize Scalable Video Coding. It is a desk top product that also connects to legacy room systems. Works over the public internet with each end point requiring 300-400 K. Supports virtually unlimited number of users on a conference with the 8 most recent speakers showing up in video. Are you familiar with it? I would be interested in any comments you have and comparisons to the higher end offerings in your multi-point review. Thanks so much.
